Sexual Violence Prevention and Education

The Department of Health was awarded a grant through the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC) in 2006 and entered into a cooperative agreement with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) to provide sexual violence prevention and education programming throughout Pennsylvania.  The Pennsylvania Statewide Strategic Plan - Sexual Violence Prevention and Education, developed in 2010, outlines the initial goals and relevant data surrounding the primary prevention of sexual violence in Pennsylvania. The Department and PCAR, along with the 16 local rape crisis centers that engage in primary prevention, continue to develop, implement and evaluate prevention strategies targeting specific populations across the commonwealth.

The Department will continue its work with PCAR to prevent sexual violence and continue to apply for CDC funding in this effort.
