Epidemiology Investigations, Monitoring & Evaluation

The overall purpose of this activity is to conceptualize, stimulate and coordinate applied public health collaborative initiatives on HIV between public health epidemiologists and practitioners, academic researchers and mentored in-service trainees, and community health partners to assure:

  1. An integrated applied "disease intervention" epidemiology bridge between data collection in public health surveillance and disease intervention programs for control and prevention of HIV [ and related diseases ], and
  2. An integrated approach to the provision of applied Epidemiology support for prevention and care intervention/service programs on HIV [ and related diseases ].

More specifically, the provision of applied "disease intervention Epidemiology" support for HIV (& related diseases) prevention and care programs is in two major domains that drive public health action:

  • Planning Support: Epidemiology consulting support for HIV [ and related diseases ] prevention and care program planning and policy development through analyses, interpretation, data utilization enhancement training and dissemination of a variety of surveillance and Epidemiologic data (collected for use in planning, policy development, resource distribution and targeting of prevention and care interventions);
  • Intervention Support: Epidemiology support for HIV [ and related diseases ] intervention program development, monitoring of program implementation process, service utilization/delivery and evaluation of outcomes through conducting applied Epidemiology research, and providing training/capacity development and intervention epidemiology consultation.

Applied Epidemiology Investigations

In support of HIV [ and related diseases ] prevention and care program planning, development, implementation, outcome evaluation and capacity development, applied epidemiology studies/investigations conducted across the continuum of engagement of in HIV prevention/care generally fall within the two (2) main categories outlined below:

  1. Supplemental Applied Epidemiology Research on Disease Burden/Risk Assessment; and Monitoring & Evaluation of Service Delivery: i.e. the design, conduct and analyses (incl. interpretation, dissemination and application of findings) of 'non-core' &/or supplemental surveillance and epidemiologic studies/investigations of HIV [and related diseases ], related disease burden/risk assessment and monitoring service delivery, and evaluating outcomes across the continuum of engagement in HIV prevention and care. To access project abstracts and findings of some completed or ongoing investigations, please download the Epidemiology Profile  (15 MB PDF Container File) or Supplements thereof in the Featured Abstract Series.
  2. Applied Disease Intervention Epidemiology/Research & Development on Interventions and Services: i.e. the design, conduct and analyses (incl. interpretation, dissemination and application of findings) of epidemiologic studies/investigations (including demonstration projects) to evaluate new or existing intervention and service delivery protocols in support of the continuum of engagement in HIV [and related diseases] intervention and service programs.
