Net Cancer Survival

This report shows how much cancer affects Pennsylvanians’ risk of death. Specifically, it contains estimates of the increased risk of dying among Pennsylvania residents as a result of cancer diagnoses. This is done using net cancer survival rates, which separate out cancer’s contribution to a patient’s overall risk of death.
Health professionals can use net survival rates to measure the effects of early diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship care. By comparing rates between groups, one can also identify groups who would benefit most from interventions.
In this report, net cancer survival rates are examined by
- year of diagnosis,
- stage at diagnosis,
- race,
- age,
- insurance coverage,
- neighborhood poverty levels, and
- geographic region.
Please note net survival cannot be used to estimate the actual survival chances of patients diagnosed with cancer.
