Pennsylvania Department of State
The Department of State oversees the Bureau of Professional and
Occupational Affairs, providing administrative and legal support to 27
professional and occupational licensing boards and commissions including
all health professional licensing . Individuals who require
professional licensing range from physicians, nurses and cosmetologists
to pharmacists and psychologists and others.

The Department of Insurance serves Pennsylvania's insurance consumers

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services
The Department of Public Welfare is charged with numerous program
areas that include all children, youth and family concerns, mental
health, mental retardation, income maintenance, medical assistance and social program issues in the Commonwealth. They also license assisted living facilities and day care centers.
Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture administers regulatory programs for
animal health certification, containment of diseased animals and
elimination of disease agents. The Bureau of Food Safety
and Laboratory Services strives to assure Pennsylvania residents that
the food they consume will meet the highest standards. They regulate and
certify the following: food service establishments, restaurants
(take-out or eat-in), fairs/carnivals, food vendors, bars, clubs
recreational facilities, commissaries and caterers. They also oversee frozen dessert manufacturers, bakeries, retail food stores and food processors.
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the
state agency largely responsible for administering Pennsylvania's
environmental laws and regulations. Its responsibilities include: reducing
air pollution; making sure drinking water is safe; protecting water
quality in rivers and streams; making sure waste is handled properly;
managing the Commonwealth's recycling programs and helping citizens
prevent pollution and comply with the Commonwealth's environmental
regulations. DEP is committed to general environmental education and
encouraging effective public involvement in setting environmental
