STATE REGISTRAR NOTICES
The Bureau of Health Statistics and Registries uses State Registrar Notices as the standard method of communicating important information to stakeholders regarding vital events reporting.
Adoption records for individuals born in Pennsylvania are maintained in the live birth registry managed by the Bureau of Health Statistics and Registries. On Nov. 3, 2016, Governor Wolf signed Act 127 of 2016. This Act outlines the process and requirements for adopted individuals to receive a noncertified copy of their original birth record. This Act takes effect on Nov. 3, 2017. Click here

The Department of Human Services; Office of Children, Youth and Families, maintains and operates the Pennsylvania Adoption Information Registry (PAIR) that enables birth parents to share their personal information and family medical history with the child they placed for adoption.

The Division of Statistical Registries runs several large health-related data collection systems including the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry, the Statewide Immunization Information System and operations related to the registration of births and deaths. Data collected are used to support public health program activities as well as selective administrative activities such as assisting the Social Security Administration with assigning social security numbers to newborns, and submitting Pennsylvania's vital statistics to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for creation of national statistics.
